I'm a health coach, wellness enthusiast, and a writer. I'm a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, The College of International Holistic Studies, and Heart of Herbs Herbal School and The Health Sciences Academy, and I help people to get healthier and happier by educating them on ways of improving the various areas of one's life...a compass on the path to better eating and lifestyle choices.
I would like to share a secret with you. I may be a health coach now, but that wasn’t always the case. In fact, if someone had told me I’d be interested in nutrition when I was in my teens, I would have laughed. After all, I was like most teens eating fast food, drinking soda and eating all those sweet treats from the grocery store shelves.
So what the heck happened to turn my food philosophy around? It really began with my first visit to a health food store looking for a particular Chinese tea. I didn’t find that tea, but the store had a free health magazine and a flyer on organic food. I took them home and read. It opened my eyes to a completely new way of thinking and eating, and as they say, the rest is history.
Fast forward 25 years, thousands of dollars in education, five certifications, and client proof that holistic works. I’ve combined all my personal experience and professional expertise into my coaching practice. I specialize in helping men and women make healthier food and lifestyle choices so they can get back their joie de vivre and live life to the fullest! My work is about empowering people to eat and live healthier.
Most approaches to nutrition dwell on calories, carbs, fats, proteins. Instead of creating lists of restrictions and good and bad foods, I coach my clients to create a happy, healthy life in a way that is flexible, fun and free of denial and discipline. Change is not easy. Knowing what to do is one thing. Implementing it is an entirely different matter. This is where I come in…
My passion is food...healthy food, but these days one might ask 'What is healthy food and how do I know if I'm eating healthy food?' The other obstacle folks experience when trying to follow a path of healthier eating and living is that family and friends do not support this new idea of eating, and it's difficult when television, radio, and other media sway the innocent public with campaigns designed to promote and encourage eating the exact foods that cause ill-health, weight-gain, and speedier aging. These days, one needs to be discriminating. Unhealthy ingredients that make those questionable foods are subsidized; organic fresh fruits and vegetables are not. Therefore, sugary breakfast cereals, snack foods, and many farmed animals are much cheaper and affordable.
My coaching is specific: I work with people who want assistance in eating and cooking real-whole foods, weight loss without going on a diet (because dieting doesn't work for the long-term), navigation through grocery stores deciphering food labels, and those wanting help with seasonal eating.
I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat or make you choose the wrong foods? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? There is no cookie-cutter formula because everyone is unique. As we work together, we will look at how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole. I work through virtual coaching: Phone / Skype.
