The Need For Health and Wellness Coaches

Heart disease, diabetes, asthma, migraines, cancer and the list goes on, are examples of chronic diseases, and yet these life crippling illnesses are for the most part…preventable.
According to the CDC, “Chronic diseases are responsible for 7 out of 10 deaths in the US, killing more than 1.7 million Americans every year,” and the CDC is also quoted as stating that “By 2025, chronic diseases will affect an estimated 164 million Americans – nearly half (49%) of the population.” And by the way, when I originally wrote this, it was documented that over 65% of Americans are overweight...and that percentage is rising.

It's incredible that with all the medical technology this country has people continue to get sicker; it tells me that the current model isn't working. Health coaches can make a difference in this country and begin to help reverse these startling statistics. Chronic illnesses can be prevented through improving diet, adding exercise, stress reduction, having healthy relationships and connecting with a spiritual belief system. There’s so much confusing health information between the television, internet, and print publications most people don’t know where or how to start and that’s where your health/wellness coach can step in.

A health coach is a professional guide trained in diet, lifestyle and wellness coaching. Health coaches educate on how to improve health by teaching how to choose and prepare healthier foods; how to reduce sugar cravings; how to increase energy; weight management; improve sleep; and even improve relationships. Believe it or not, improving in these few areas alone can make all the difference in world. Health coaches support, empower and educate through one-on-one sessions, group sessions, workshops, and classes. They work with doctors, yoga studios, private practice, and corporations.

Right now, 133 million Americans suffer from at least one chronic disease, likely a preventable disease...are you one of them?
