Happy 2018! Let's Get Back On Track With Our Health!

Happy New Year everyone! I love this holiday. The idea of beginning a new year - starting a new chapter in our lives inspires me in so many ways. I typically get off track in December:  I eat too much, eat foods I usually avoid... and tell others not to eat, I get a little lax on my self-care (exercise and meditation), and put my creative projects on the back burner. Does any of this sound a little familiar?

So here we are January 1. It's time to brush off the dust from last year, kick the guilt to the curb, and start all over. Here is the chance for us to get back on track with our health (and other things) and start feeling great about ourselves (for those who aren't). Health or good health means something different to each one of us. For me, it means feeling good mentally, physically, having lots of energy, sleeping well, and having glowing skin and bright eyes.

Thank goodness it's not that difficult to get back on track. First, decide what is the most important thing to you. Is it having more energy? Is it reducing back pain? Is it losing 10 pounds? With that in mind, every day, beginning today, do one thing to bring you closer to that goal. For example, you want to lose a few pounds. Let's say you like to snack on potato chips in the afternoon. If it's the salt you're craving why not go for a couple of stalks of celery instead (celery is salty). If it's sweet you're after then try an organic apple instead of a piece of pie. Even reducing your portion of food will make a difference. Adding a gentle walk after dinner will help as well. To stay on course, I use journals and daytimers to log my progress. Some people use coaches, join groups, or hire a trainer at a gym to stay on track. Whatever works for you is the best way.

Now, I'm going to share one of my health goals with you. I am an herbalist and absolutely love my herbs. I love cooking with them; I love growing them and love drinking them. The herbs enrich my life - my health. My goal is to get back to drinking my nettle infusions daily, and drinking my chamomile tea before crawling in at night. These two herbs used regularly and consistently increase my energy, bone and skin health and improve my digestion.

What's your health goal? If you have more than one and that makes you feel a little overwhelmed, I suggest choosing the easiest one first. We often feel encouraged to do something else when we experience satisfaction from even an easy goal.

I wish you a very happy new year. You deserve the best in life - you really do.

To your good health and happy life,
